JEMBER – Politeknik Negeri Jember (POLIJE) is exploring academic collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Malaysia, to expand its international partnerships. The meeting took place on October 1, 2026, facilitated by the Mandala Institute of Technology and Science (ITSM) Jember.

The UniMAP delegation was led by Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Shukry Bin Abdul Majid, Vice Chancellor for Academic and International Affairs. POLIJE Director Saiful Anwar, S.TP., M.P., welcomed the delegation alongside ITSM Rector Prof. Dr. Suwignyo Widagdo, S.E., M.M., M.P.

Saiful Anwar expressed his appreciation for UniMAP’s visit. He emphasized that international partnerships could strengthen the development of applied technology, agriculture, and engineering.

“POLIJE is open to global collaboration, particularly in applied technology, agriculture, and engineering,” Saiful said.

Meanwhile, Suwignyo explained that the meeting followed initial communication between ITSM and UniMAP. He hoped ITSM could facilitate sustainable academic partnerships between Jember and Perlis.

During the meeting, Prof. Mohd Shukry introduced UniMAP as a university specializing in engineering and technology. He also outlined potential collaboration opportunities at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The proposed initiatives included joint academic programs, collaborative research and publications, student exchanges, internships, and visiting lecturer programs. These initiatives could provide opportunities for students and lecturers to gain international academic experience.

The three institutions also discussed credit transfer arrangements and joint research. Other potential areas included green technology, food security, and international community engagement.

POLIJE proposed a vocational education-based collaboration model that could be implemented over one semester. UniMAP responded positively to the proposal and expressed its willingness to explore the initiative further.

The meeting concluded with a souvenir exchange and a group photograph. The three institutions agreed to follow up on the discussion by preparing a draft memorandum of understanding.

Through this initiative, POLIJE aims to strengthen its international academic network and create broader opportunities for students and lecturers. Collaboration with UniMAP is expected to support global learning experiences, research development, and the advancement of vocational education.
