Semar Mesem Poultry Slaughterhouse Officially Obtains Halal Certification with Support from Polije

Semar Mesem Poultry Slaughterhouse (RPU Semar Mesem) has officially obtained a Halal Certificate from the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) of the Republic of Indonesia. This achievement is the result of a collaboration between RPU Semar Mesem and Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) through the INOVOKASI Program, which focuses on the application of appropriate technology.

Owner of RPU Semar Mesem, Wildatus Sholehah, expressed her gratitude for the milestone.

“We are proud to finally provide halal assurance for our products, including processed chicken, offal, head, and feet. The collaboration with Polije through INOVOKASI was the key to our success,” she said.

The INOVOKASI program, led by Dr. Rosa Tri Hertamawati, involved lecturers from the Department of Animal Husbandry, Anang Febri Prasetyo, Shokhirul Imam, Agus Hadi Prayitno, Reikha Rahmasari as well as Wahyu Suryaningsih from the Department of Food Technology. The team organized workshops on RPU management under the ASUH principle (Safe, Healthy, Whole, Halal), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP). In addition, RPU’s slaughterers underwent Halal Butcher (Juleha) certification training at the Religious Training Center in Surabaya.

The Halal Certificate was issued after RPU Semar Mesem successfully passed the audit conducted by the Halal Inspection Agency of Universitas Brawijaya (LPH UB). The audit covered slaughtering procedures, equipment hygiene, and product distribution.

“With this halal certification, the public no longer needs to doubt the quality and assurance of chicken products circulating in Jember and its surrounding areas,” stated Dr. Rosa Tri Hertamawati.

This achievement not only boosts consumer trust but also opens wider market opportunities for RPU Semar Mesem across East Java and potentially at the national level. Furthermore, the step aligns with the Indonesian government’s vision of positioning the country as a global halal industry hub starting in 2024.
