POLITEKNIK NEGERI JEMBER HOLDS FAREWELL CEREMONY FOR DARMASISWA STUDENTS FROM BANGLADESH AND SUDAN

Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) held a heartfelt farewell ceremony for two outstanding international students participating in the Republic of Indonesia’s Darmasiswa Scholarship Program for the academic year 2024/2025. The ceremony, conducted at the International Office, celebrated the successful completion of a ten-month Indonesian language and culture program by Mohamed Alnour Alhafiz Mohamed Alnour Albakrey from Sudan and MD Toufik Nur Rasyid from Bangladesh.

Both students were honored with certificates of completion bearing the predicate “Excellent,” reflecting their remarkable commitment and achievements throughout the program.

Agung Wahyono, Ph.D, Vice Director for Cooperation at Polije, expressed appreciation for their enthusiasm and growth during the program. “This program is not just about learning language, but also about cultural diplomacy. We are proud to have hosted Mohamed and Toufik, and we hope they will carry the spirit of Indonesia wherever they go,” he said.

Renata, Head of the Language Academic Support Unit at Polije, emphasized the role of international students as cultural representatives. “Every international student, and likewise every Indonesian who goes abroad, automatically becomes an ambassador of their country. People will see and remember their home country through them — through their behavior, their language, their curiosity, and their character. That is why it’s important to always reflect the best version of ourselves wherever we are,” she remarked.

Meiga, a lecturer in the BIPA (Bahasa Indonesia for Foreign Speakers) program, reflected on her teaching experience: “They were very curious, respectful, and always eager to learn. Their presence enriched our classroom environment and brought a global perspective to our discussions.”

In his speech, Mohamed Alnour conveyed his gratitude, stating, “Studying in Jember has been a life-changing experience. I have learned not only the language but also gained a deep appreciation for Indonesian culture and hospitality. Thank you, Polije, for giving me this opportunity.”

The Darmasiswa program, managed by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education of the Republic of Indonesia, aims to foster cultural exchange by inviting foreign students to study Bahasa Indonesia and local traditions at selected educational institutions across the country.

As Mohamed and Toufik prepare to return home, they leave as cultural ambassadors — carrying with them not only language skills but also cherished memories and lasting friendships made during their time in Indonesia.

The farewell event also featured cultural performances and video documentation highlighting the students’ activities during their stay in Jember. It was an emotional moment as lecturers, staff, and fellow students expressed their goodbyes and well-wishes.

This ceremony not only celebrated academic achievement but also symbolized a meaningful bond between nations. It underscored Polije’s commitment to supporting global learning and nurturing individuals who contribute to international peace and understanding.

With this experience, Polije continues to strengthen its position as a forward-looking vocational higher education institution that is open to the world, fostering mutual respect, diversity, and shared knowledge beyond borders. (rda)
