Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) held a dissemination event titled “Optimizing Pasture, Feed, and Water Management in Dairy Livestock”, presented by lecturer from the Department of Animal Husbandry, Ir. Agus Hadi Prayitno, S.Pt., M.Sc., IPM. The event was part of the Australia Awards Project and served as an academic platform to share knowledge and experiences gained from an intensive short course in Australia on July 14–25, 2025, supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Australia and Griffith University.
In his presentation, Agus Hadi shared insights on pasture management, dairy cattle nutrition and physiology, and strategies to increase forage intake. He emphasized the importance of modern technology in supporting livestock productivity.
“One of the most interesting aspects was the use of Rumen8 software to calculate dairy cattle feed requirements. With this technology, farmers can formulate rations more precisely based on the nutritional needs of their livestock,” explained Agus Hadi.
He also highlighted the application of TMR (Total Mixed Ration) and PMR (Partial Mixed Ration) systems, which have proven effective in improving feed efficiency and maintaining cattle health.
The dissemination was attended by Vice Director for Academic Affairs, Surateno, S.Kom., M.Kom., Vice Director for Planning, Cooperation, and Information Systems, Agung Wahyono, SP., M.Si., Ph.D., along with lecturers, academic staff of the Department of Animal Husbandry, the Head of the Integrated Agriculture Development Unit, and students from the study programs of Animal Production, Animal Feed Technology, and Poultry Agribusiness Management.
Vice Director for Academic Affairs emphasized that the program plays a crucial role in strengthening Polije’s academic capacity.
“We want to ensure that the international knowledge and experiences brought back by our lecturers can be implemented, so they truly contribute to the development of the dairy industry in Indonesia,” he stated.
Agus Hadi further noted that the dissemination was not only about sharing knowledge but also about creating opportunities for innovative collaborations in the livestock sector.
Through this initiative, Polije reaffirms its commitment to enhancing education quality and human resource development via international programs, while also strengthening academic networks to foster a sustainable dairy farming industry in Indonesia.
