In celebration of World Tourism Day 2025, observed globally on September 27, the Student Association of the Department of Language, Communication, and Tourism (HMJ BKP) at Jember State Polytechnic (Polije) organized an environmental awareness campaign at Pancer Beach, Puger, on Saturday (27/9/2025).
The event carried the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation”, emphasizing the vital link between tourism development and environmental stewardship. The activity brought together students, local communities, the Puger Kulon Village Government, the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis), and the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL).
Participants took part in tree planting and beach clean-up initiatives, symbolizing their joint commitment to preserving the coastal ecosystem. The event highlighted how tourism, when managed sustainably, can support both community livelihoods and environmental conservation in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goals 13 (Climate Action), 14 (Life Below Water), and 15 (Life on Land).
Enik Rukiati, Head of the Department of Language, Communication, and Tourism at Polije, emphasized that the event represented a tangible collaboration between academia, government, and local communities.
“We hope this partnership will not end with today’s activity, but will continue as a sustainable effort to advance tourism in Jember Regency,” she stated.
Enik also noted that the initiative not only benefited the local environment but also provided a valuable learning experience for students.
“Our students are encouraged to understand that environmental preservation is a shared responsibility—especially within tourism areas,” she added.
This aligns with Polije’s mission to cultivate environmentally conscious graduates who can contribute to responsible and sustainable tourism practices.
World Tourism Day serves as a global reminder of tourism’s multifaceted role—not only as an economic driver, but also as a platform for cultural preservation, environmental protection, and inclusive development. Through this initiative, Polije reaffirms its commitment as a leading vocational institution that nurtures competent human resources while promoting innovation, community service, and sustainable regional tourism development.
