The Agricultural Innovation and Technology Competition (AITeC) 7 2025 brought a unique touch to its lineup with the Barista Manual Brew V60 competition, held at the Perjuangan 45 Sports Hall courtyard of Jember State Polytechnic (Polije). This category highlighted students’ creativity in coffee brewing, showcasing the growing popularity of manual brew techniques among modern coffee enthusiasts.
In this competition, participants were challenged not only to master the V60 brewing method, but also to understand the characteristics of the coffee beans they used. Every precise movement—water ratio, temperature, and brewing time—played a crucial role in shaping the final flavor profile of the coffee.
Polije Director Saiful Anwar, S.TP., M.P., praised the inclusion of a barista competition within an agricultural and technology event.
“The Manual Brew V60 competition shows that agriculture is not only about production, but also about creating added value from what we cultivate. Coffee is a flagship product that requires creativity in its processing,” he remarked.
He added that this competition serves as a platform for students to sharpen their entrepreneurial skills.
“We want students to understand that innovation can begin from a single cup of coffee. From upstream to downstream, coffee holds tremendous economic potential,” he continued.
The atmosphere was filled with the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee as participants showcased their best techniques before judges evaluating taste, aroma, and presentation.
For some contestants, this was their first experience competing in the barista field. Yet their enthusiasm and creativity reflected the strong potential of young generations to advance the local coffee industry.
The Barista Manual Brew V60 category demonstrated that AITeC is not only focused on agricultural technology innovation, but also on the creative industries born from agricultural products—especially coffee.
Through this competition, students are expected to gain deeper insight that coffee is more than just a beverage—it is a cultural, economic, and creative bridge capable of reaching the global stage.
