Mechatronics Students Develop Automatic Herbal Powdering Machine for MSMEs

Innovation once again emerged from the Mechatronics Engineering Technology students of Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) through the development of an automatic herbal powdering machine. This machine is designed to increase the production efficiency of traditional herbal medicine (jamu) for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

The team, led by Reyfaldi Ari Mauliddin, along with members Wilda Mas Amanah and Malva Nitsa Amadea, successfully designed this machine in two months. The device is equipped with a digital timer, a temperature sensor, and an automatic stirring system that can be adjusted according to user needs.

The team leader, Reyfaldi Ari Mauliddin, explained that the machine was engineered to make the herbal medicine production process more practical and efficient. This innovation directly supports SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by improving MSME productivity.

“Users simply set the time on the digital timer and press the start button. The machine will automatically stir and heat the herbal ingredients for the desired duration, and stop automatically when the temperature reaches the maximum limit,” he explained.

This automation process makes the production of powdered jamu faster and more consistent compared to traditional methods. The installed temperature sensor also allows users to monitor the pan’s temperature in real-time via an LCD display, ensuring the processed quality is maintained.

With its high efficiency, this innovation is expected to help traditional jamu MSMEs increase productivity and maintain product quality standards.

“Moving forward, we hope this machine can be further developed in terms of its automation so that it can be used on a broader industrial scale,” Reyfaldi added.
