As part of the International Mobility and Community Service Program hosted by Politeknik Negeri Jember (POLIJE), a delegation from the Academy of Language Studies (APB), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Melaka Branch, Malaysia, visited the Indonesian Coffee and Cocoa Research Center (Puslit Koka) in Jember. The visit aimed to provide students with insights into Indonesia’s rich coffee and cocoa heritage, its research innovations, and the local agricultural industry’s global impact.
The UiTM delegation, composed of 10 students and 2 lecturers, Ms. Nur Aqilah Norwahi and Ms. Nurshaza Farah Md Sharif, was accompanied by representatives from POLIJE’s International Affairs Office (KUI). They were warmly welcomed by the research center’s staff, who shared a presentation on the history and achievements of Puslit Koka as one of Indonesia’s leading agricultural research institutions.
During the visit, participants learned about the various stages of coffee and cocoa processing—from cultivation, harvesting, fermentation, roasting, to final product development. The researchers explained how Puslit Koka integrates scientific innovation and sustainability principles to improve crop quality and empower local farmers across Indonesia.
The UiTM students were fascinated by the in-depth explanation of the research and development process. They had the opportunity to observe the laboratory facilities, visit demonstration fields, and sample several local coffee and chocolate products produced by the center. The interactive learning experience deepened their understanding of Indonesia’s agricultural research landscape.
In her remarks, Ms. Nur Aqilah Norwahi expressed appreciation to Puslit Koka and POLIJE for facilitating such an informative and inspiring visit. She mentioned that the visit not only provided valuable academic exposure but also offered cultural insight into Indonesia’s identity as one of the world’s leading coffee and cocoa producers.
The visit also highlighted POLIJE’s commitment to offering meaningful educational experiences through collaboration with research and industry partners. By connecting international students with local innovation hubs like Puslit Koka, POLIJE continues to promote applied learning and cross-cultural understanding in the field of agriculture and technology.
For POLIJE, the visit represented an opportunity to showcase Jember’s agricultural excellence and strengthen academic cooperation with UiTM Melaka. The interaction between researchers, lecturers, and students from both countries underscored the importance of regional collaboration in advancing agricultural education and sustainability.
The visit concluded with a group photo session and souvenir exchange, symbolizing friendship and future collaboration between POLIJE, UiTM Melaka, and Puslit Koka Jember.
