Politeknik Negeri Jember (POLIJE) continues to strengthen its collaboration with industry partners in order to improve the quality of student learning and professional readiness. Recently, POLIJE conducted a visit to Mitra Tani to discuss the establishment of a structured internship program that will serve as a bridge between academic learning and real-world industry practices.
The visit was part of POLIJE’s commitment to ensuring that students gain relevant and practical competencies before entering the workforce. By engaging with companies such as Mitra Tani, POLIJE aims to design internship schemes that are systematic, targeted, and beneficial for both students and industry stakeholders.
During the meeting, POLIJE was accompanied by representatives from Skills for Competitiveness (S4C) Swisscontact Indonesia. Senior Program Officer Benaya Jaya and Program Officer Niken Palupi provided strategic insights into how the structured internship model can align with the specific skill needs of the agricultural sector, ensuring that students are equipped with industry-relevant expertise.
Discussions with Mitra Tani focused on identifying suitable internship placements, determining competency standards, and creating a learning framework that integrates both technical and soft skills. The structured approach is expected to improve the quality of the student experience, moving beyond traditional internships into a more outcome-based program.
For the Agricultural Technology Department of POLIJE, this collaboration holds particular importance. The department seeks to enhance its students’ hands-on learning opportunities, enabling them to apply classroom knowledge in a real working environment. Through exposure to Mitra Tani’s operations, students will better understand the challenges and innovations within the agricultural industry.
This initiative also reflects POLIJE’s broader vision of producing graduates who are competitive at the national and international levels. Structured internships not only provide technical training but also help students build adaptability, problem-solving skills, and professionalism, all of which are highly valued by employers.
Mitra Tani, on its part, welcomed the initiative and expressed readiness to collaborate with POLIJE in providing opportunities for students. By involving academic institutions, the company also benefits from the fresh perspectives, enthusiasm, and innovative ideas that students bring to the workplace.
Through the support of S4C Swisscontact Indonesia, this collaboration is expected to become a model for future internship programs across other study programs at POLIJE. By working closely with industry partners, POLIJE reaffirms its dedication to creating a strong link between education and employment, ultimately contributing to sustainable agricultural development in Indonesia.
