In a significant step towards enhancing technical and vocational education and training (TVET) cooperation, Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) actively participated in the ASEAN-China TVET Forum held at the Grand Hotel Preanger, Bandung. This prestigious event was organized by the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) and supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing, and Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI).
The forum gathered the leader of Polytechnic in Indonesia, including representatives from Indonesian and Chinese TVET institutions, business leaders, and policymakers. Among the distinguished attendees was Agung Wahyono, Ph.D., Vice Director for Cooperation at Polije, whose participation underscored Polije’s dedication to fostering international partnerships in education and workforce development.
In his remarks during the opening session, Agung Wahyono emphasized Polije’s commitment to advancing global collaboration in vocational education.
“Polije is proud to be part of this forum, which serves as a bridge between ASEAN and China in strengthening human resource development. Through initiatives like this, we can align educational programs with industry demands, ensuring our graduates are equipped for the global market,” he stated.
The forum featured several key activities, including a panel discussion on the talent demands of businesses in Indonesia and the ASEAN region. Representatives from companies such as PT LiuGong Machinery Indonesia and the Beifang Education Group highlighted the critical need for industry-ready skills, a focus that aligns closely with Polije’s vision.
Another highlight was the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU’s) between various institutions, symbolizing a commitment to deepen cooperation. Polije’s role in facilitating these collaborations demonstrates its position as a leading institution in the region’s vocational education landscape.
The event also provided a platform for TVET institutions to showcase their academic strengths and areas of expertise. Delegates from both Indonesia and China presented innovative programs and explored opportunities for joint research, curriculum development, and student exchange.
Beyond the formal sessions, the forum included networking events that encouraged direct dialogue between educational institutions and industries. This initiative allowed Polije to engage with potential partners, exploring possibilities for internships, training programs, and collaborative projects.
Agung Wahyono’s active involvement in the discussions and his emphasis on Polije’s achievements further highlighted the institution’s role as a key player in the international education arena. He reiterated Polije’s commitment to fostering a skilled workforce ready to contribute to sustainable economic growth.
The ASEAN-China TVET Forum concluded with the soft launch of the ASEAN-China Center of Excellence (ACCE), a milestone aimed at promoting knowledge exchange and capacity building. Delegates left the forum with a renewed sense of purpose to strengthen regional ties in education and training.
With its proactive participation, Polije continues to solidify its reputation as a forward-thinking institution that values international collaboration and innovation. (rda)
