Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) once again made an achievement in the academic world by successfully holding two international level seminars, namely the 7th International Conference on Food and Agriculture (ICoFA) 2024 and the 5th International Conference on Social Science, Humanity and Public Health (ICoSHIP) 2024. This activity took place at Ketapang Indah Hotel, Banyuwangi, on Saturday, October 12, 2024, and was attended by academics and researchers from various countries.
The ICoFA conference carried the theme ‘Empowering Global Society in the Field of Agriculture, Food, Animal Husbandry, and Energy to Respond to Climate Emergency for Sustainable Future’ while ICoSHIP raised the theme ‘Beyond Megatrends 2045: Synergizing Social Sciences, Humanities, and Public Health for Navigating Global Impacts’.
In the ICoFA event, a number of important figures attended as keynote speakers, including Prof. Benjamin C. McLellan, from the Graduate School of Energy Science, Kyoto University, Japan, who spoke about renewable energy and its role in climate change mitigation, Dr. Sumeth Piayura, from the Department of Food Technology, Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University, Thailand, who presented innovations in food technology, and Prof. Dr. Ir. Titi Candra Sunarti, M.Si., from Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Indonesia, who discussed the development of agro-industrial technology in the era of climate change.
Meanwhile, ICoSHIP also featured prominent speakers, such as: Dr. Junaidi, S.S., M.A., who is a member of the UI GreenMetric Team, Indonesia, with a topic on environmental sustainability in educational institutions, Dr. Siti Marsila Mhd Ruslan, from the University of Malaysia Terengganu, who spoke about the role of public health in facing global challenges, Bobur Sobirov, Ph.D. from the Samarkand branch of Tashkent State University of Economics, Uzbekistan, who explained about the economy amid global social change.
This activity was officially opened by the Director of Polije, Saiful Anwar, S.TP., M.P., who in his remarks emphasized that ICoFA and ICoSHIP are Polije’s efforts to continue to contribute to the development of science at the global level.
“ICoFA focuses on agriculture, food, livestock, and energy, while ICoSHIP covers the fields of social humanities and public health. These two events are academic traditions that have become Polije’s annual agenda, with ICoFA entering its 7th year and ICoSHIP its 5th year,” he said.
Furthermore, Saiful Anwar also emphasized the importance of international cooperation in supporting Polije’s vision to become a superior polytechnic in Asia in 2035.
“The presence of keynote speakers from Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, and Uzbekistan is proof of the growing international network and the importance of cross-country collaboration in solving global problems,” he continued.
The Head of the Polije Research and Community Service Center (P3M), Dr. Ir. Hariadi Subagja, S.Pt., M.P., IPM, added that the organization of these two international conferences is part of a series of activities for the 36th Anniversary of Polije.
“We are very proud of the organization of ICoFA and ICoSHIP this year which was attended by around 198 participants from various countries. We hope that this event can continue to be held regularly and invite more competent speakers in the future.
The event was closed by the Deputy Director of Academic Affairs, Surateno, S. Kom, M. Kom., who also expressed his appreciation to all committees and participants who had participated. With the success of these two conferences, Polije shows its commitment to supporting the sustainability of science, technology and health during increasingly complex global challenges. (rda)
