The Agro-Industry Management Study Program of Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) joined forces with the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Trunojoyo Madura (UTM) to strengthen fish processors in Dharma Camplong Village, Sampang. The program was supported by a national grant from DPPM Kemendiktisaintek.
The beneficiary group, Poklahsar Mina Olahan, has managed a smoked fish business since 2021. However, their traditional open-smoking method was inefficient and environmentally harmful. Polije and UTM introduced applied food technology to improve product quality and safety.
Cindiah Syahnaz, Polije lecturer, emphasized the goal of the program.
“We want smoked fish products to meet higher quality standards, be safe for consumption, and compete in broader markets,” she said.
The team provided a modern fish smoker, vacuum sealer, and freezer, along with training on hygienic processing, packaging, and marketing. This innovation is expected to increase product competitiveness and reach.
The initiative was well received.
“We are very grateful for the tools provided—they are very useful and help us expand our products,” said Maghfiroh, a Poklahsar representative.
According to Cindiah, the program not only supplies technology but also ensures continuous mentoring. “Cross-university collaboration like this adds value and supports the implementation of MBKM,” she added.
