Polije Trains Elementary School Teachers in Coding and Microcontroller to Support Digital Education in Sukorambi

A team of lecturers from the Information Technology Department of Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) successfully conducted a training program on coding and microcontroller for elementary school teachers across Sukorambi District. The activity, held on August 16–17 at SDN Dukuh Mencek 03, was carried out in collaboration with JTinova, the Teaching Factory of Polije’s Information Technology Department.

The training drew strong support from local stakeholders, including the Sukorambi Subdistrict Head, elementary school supervisors, principals, and representatives from every elementary school in the district. Their presence reflected a shared commitment to improving technology-based learning at the primary education level.

Manager of JTI Innovation, Ely Mulyadi, S.E., M.Kom., officially opened the event. Teachers were then introduced to PictoBlox, a visual block-based programming platform designed to make early coding education more accessible. Participants not only learned the basics of programming logic but also applied their knowledge through simple electronic components connected to microcontrollers.

Chair of the training team, Lalitya Nindita Sahenda, S.Pd., M.T., explained that the program was structured to empower teachers in bringing digital literacy into classrooms.

“We hope teachers can transfer digital literacy to their students, so elementary school children get used to thinking logically, creatively, and adaptively toward technological advancements,” Lalitya said.

Echoing this, Dra. Sri Iswaningsih, M.Pd., elementary school supervisor for Sukorambi District, emphasized the relevance of the program.

“This initiative is a concrete example of how Polije connects campus innovation with community needs. It is highly relevant for preparing teachers to face the new curriculum that integrates coding,” she stated.

Through this training, elementary school teachers in Sukorambi are expected to become more prepared for the challenges of a digital-based curriculum and capable of introducing coding to their students. The initiative also highlights Polije’s strategic role in strengthening collaboration between higher education institutions, government, and schools to support digital education transformation in the era of Society 5.0.
