POLIJE STUDENTS MAKE ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE INTERNATIONAL BRIDGE EVENT

Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) students made another proud achievement in the international competition. The Polije Bridge Team won second place in the 7th South East Asia Bridge Federation Cup and 40th ASEAN Bridge Club Championship, organized by the South East Asia Bridge Federation. This prestigious activity took place from September 25 to 29, 2024 at The Margo Hotel Depok, West Java.

The team of four talented students were Muhammad Sulaiman, Muhammad Surul, Nurisnawati, and Firdatus Sholehah. They showed excellent game quality and managed to overcome various challenges in the tournament which was attended by teams from other ASEAN countries.

“In the preliminary round, we dominated the game with only two losses out of the total matches. We feel confident and excited to move on to the next round,” said Muhammad Sulaiman.

He also added that strategy and solid teamwork were the keys to their success during the preliminary round. However, the final round was a tougher challenge. The Polije team had to face the Indonesian U-26 national team, Metaforsa, which is known as one of the best teams in Southeast Asia. Despite the crushing defeat in the final, Muhammad Sulaiman was still proud of his team’s achievement.

“We lost to a very strong team, but we were able to show our best performance by beating Thailand Team A with a score of 48-12 IMPs (17.59-2.41 VP),” he added.

Even without the assistance of a coach, the Bridge Polije team managed to maximize the abilities of each member. This shows their dedication and commitment to excel.

“We learned a lot from this experience. The victory against Thailand Team A was a very proud moment and gave us more motivation to continue practicing,” he said.

This achievement is a highlight not only for Polije but also for the bridge world in Indonesia. Muhammad Sulaiman hopes that the campus can provide more support for the Polije bridge team in future championships.

“We hope that Polije can provide more support, both in terms of training facilities and funding to participate in other national and international championships,” he added.

Support from the campus is expected to increase the motivation and enthusiasm of students to continue to excel in the field of bridge. Firdatus Sholehah adds,

“With better support, we believe we can achieve even better results in the future.” She hoped.

The achievement of the Bridge Polije team in this international event not only raised the name of the campus, but also became an inspiration for other students to pursue achievements in various fields. Hopefully, with enthusiasm and hard work, the Polije Bridge team can continue to achieve achievements on the international stage and make Indonesia proud in the world of sports. (rda)
