POLIJE HOLDS GENERAL LECTURE: SUSTAINABLE LIVESTOCK TRANSFORMATION TOWARDS SDGs 2030

The Livestock Production Study Program, Department of Animal Husbandry, at Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) organized a General Lecture themed “Towards Sustainable Livestock Transformation for Achieving SDGs 2030” on Friday (07/02). This event served as a concrete step in enhancing the global-level learning experience for the Livestock Production study program.

The online General Lecture featured keynote speakers from various fields, including Dr. Amirul Faiz bin Mohd Azmi, a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universiti Malaysia; Ramdhani, S.Pt., M.MT., from the Directorate of Downstream Livestock Products, Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health (Ditjen PKH); and Aam Aminuddin Ridwan, S.Pt., Manager at PT. Prima Fajar. The speakers provided insights into the importance of innovation in the livestock industry to achieve sustainability and the role of academics and professionals in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030.

The event was officially opened by Agus Riyanto, S.E., M.Si., Head of the Academic, Student Affairs, Planning, and Cooperation Division at Polije. In his opening remarks, he emphasized the importance of collaboration in improving the quality of education in the era of globalization.

“Polije strives to meet this quality improvement through various activities, one of which is the General Lecture. This event brings together livestock industry stakeholders with students and prospective students as the target audience,” he stated.

Agus Riyanto also highlighted that through such activities, students could better understand their roles in the global livestock industry and prepare themselves for future career challenges.

In addition to providing academic and industry insights, the General Lecture also facilitated an interactive discussion between the speakers and participants. Students had the opportunity to ask questions related to the presented topics and share their perspectives on the future of the livestock industry. Participants, including students and high school students, actively engaged in the Q&A session, demonstrating their high interest in current issues within the livestock sector.

Beyond delivering lectures and discussions, the event also served as a networking platform for students to connect with industry professionals. By featuring speakers from various sectors, students gained a deeper understanding of how the theories learned on campus can be applied in real-world work environments. The speakers also motivated students to continuously innovate and develop skills relevant to the industry’s current needs.

The event was attended by all students of the Livestock Production Study Program, as well as high school and vocational school students from East Java. The participants’ enthusiasm was evident from the numerous questions raised and the dynamic discussions throughout the event. They also gained insights into how Polije’s Livestock Production study program offers significant career opportunities in academia, industry, and livestock entrepreneurship.

By organizing this event, participants were expected to gain a broader understanding of sustainable livestock transformation in supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030. Polije remains committed to providing innovative and relevant academic programs to produce graduates ready to contribute to the livestock industry at both national and international levels. Moving forward, Polije plans to hold more similar events that benefit students and the livestock sector in general. This initiative is expected to help Polije graduates become agents of change, driving Indonesia’s livestock industry towards a more sustainable and globally competitive future. (rda)
