Politeknik Negeri Jember (POLIJE) participated in a high-level academic meeting hosted by the U.S. Consulate General in Surabaya on Friday, October 3, 2025. The event, held from 12:45 to 3:15 p.m., brought together representatives from top U.S. universities and Indonesian higher education institutions to explore potential collaborations in education, research, and academic exchange programs.
The meeting was opened by Ms. Genevive Judson-Jurdain, Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Consulate, accompanied by Ms. Yoana W. Kristiawati, Ms. Ambar, and Mr. Rizqi from the Consulate’s Education and Public Engagement Division. They emphasized the U.S. government’s commitment to strengthening educational ties with Indonesia, particularly through partnerships that promote academic innovation and cross-cultural understanding.
Representatives from several prestigious American institutions attended the session, including Arizona State University, Johns Hopkins University, the University of Colorado Boulder, and California State University. Each brought insights into their international education programs and expressed strong enthusiasm for establishing meaningful academic partnerships in Indonesia.
On the Indonesian side, the meeting was attended by prominent universities such as Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Universitas Kristen Petra, Universitas Ciputra, Universitas Brawijaya, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang, Universitas Udayana, and Politeknik Negeri Jember. Each institution was given the opportunity to hold focused discussions with U.S. representatives to explore tailored collaboration opportunities.
POLIJE actively engaged in dialogues with multiple U.S. universities to identify areas of mutual interest. The discussions revealed strong alignment in fields such as joint and double-degree programs, guest lectures, online workshops, and student short courses. The Johns Hopkins University School of Education and Shoreline Community College were identified as the most compatible partners for POLIJE, sharing similar academic goals and practical learning approaches.
The outcomes of the meeting emphasized a shared commitment to developing innovative educational programs that can enhance student and faculty competencies. Among the proposed initiatives were collaborative guest lectures, professional certification for teaching staff, and support for teaching factory development—a key model in POLIJE’s applied learning system.
To strengthen its international visibility, the meeting’s evaluation recommended that POLIJE develop English-language promotional materials such as brochures and booklets. These materials will serve to highlight the institution’s academic strengths, research capabilities, and global cooperation achievements, positioning POLIJE as a competitive partner for future U.S. collaborations.
This meeting marked an important milestone in POLIJE’s internationalization journey, demonstrating its proactive efforts to expand global academic networks. Through continued engagement with the U.S. Consulate and partner universities, POLIJE aims to create sustainable collaborations that contribute to advancing education and research excellence in the ASEAN region.
