Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) received a special visit from Prof. Sadaki Samitsu, a lecturer from Waseda University and Principal Researcher at the Data-driven Polymer Design Group, Research Center for Macromolecules and Biomaterials (RCMB), National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), Japan. This visit is one form of Polije’s international relations that continues to develop to establish research partnerships with leading institutions in the world. Located at the Polije Engineering Department, Prof. Samitsu was warmly welcomed by lecturers and students in a visit filled with research discussions and laboratory tours.
In his remarks, Prof. Sadaki Samitsu expressed his enthusiasm for establishing collaboration with Polije in various fields, especially those related to biomass, agriculture, and utilization of natural resources. According to him, Indonesia has enormous potential in these sectors, both in terms of natural resources, oil reserves, and renewable energy, which makes it a strategic country to be developed in research collaboration.
“Indonesia has great potential in natural resources that can be utilized for energy and agriculture, while in Japan, we face resource limitations, especially in soil fertility. This motivates us to explore research opportunities in Indonesia,” said Prof. Samitsu.
He also expressed his desire to understand more deeply about the research being carried out in Indonesia, including at Polije, especially in the field of macromolecular and biomaterial technology, which is the main focus of his research. Prof. Samitsu believes that biomaterial and macromolecular technology can have a significant impact on developing sustainable innovation in the fields of agriculture and energy, which are very relevant to current global challenges.
Head of the Polije Engineering Department, Mochammad Nuruddin, S.T., M.Sc., expressed his gratitude for the presence of Prof. Sadaki Samitsu and team, while stating Polije’s readiness to support various forms of collaboration in the future.
“We are very honored by the visit of one of Japan’s leading researchers. This is a valuable opportunity for us to not only learn, but also to develop research that is relevant to Indonesian and global society,” he said.
Nuruddin also added that Polije is very open to building cooperation involving joint research and student and lecturer exchanges, with the hope of increasing Polije’s academic and research capacity at the international level.
The series of activities for this visit included in-depth discussions on research directions in the fields of biomass, natural resource management, and agricultural support technology that can make a real contribution to food and energy security in the future. In addition, Prof. Samitsu also toured the laboratory at Polije to see the available research facilities and delve deeper into the research methods currently being applied on the campus.
In closing, Prof. Sadaki Samitsu expressed his appreciation for the friendliness and enthusiasm of Polije in welcoming him. He hopes that this meeting will be the first step towards cooperation that is beneficial for both parties.
“I am sure that the potential for this cooperation is very large, and we really hope to be able to establish ongoing collaboration with Polije for various useful projects,” he concluded.
Prof.’s Visit Sadaki Samitsu is proof of Polije’s commitment to continuously improve the quality of education and research, especially in the fields of engineering and applied science, as well as strengthening Indonesia’s position in international research. (rda)
