Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) delegation participated in the International Research Collaboration Workshop held at Ritsumeikan University, Osaka International Center (OIC), Ibaraki, Osaka, Japan. In the activity with the theme Securing the Future of Indonesian Coffee: Potential and Challenge of the Coffee Industry, Polije delegation was represented by Sepdian Luri Asmono, S.ST., MP.
According to Sepdian, the activity that was participated in Japan discussed the prospects of coffee in Indonesia from upstream to downstream.
“I was invited because of my competence in the field of coffee, especially in tissue culture,” explained Sepdian.
In Japan, I participated in a roastery industrial visit, and the main activity was a workshop with several researchers in Japan and Indonesia.
“In the activities in Japan we gained a lot of insight about coffee, especially links with researchers and industry about the development of coffee between two countries,” continued Sepdian.
In addition, the workshop activities in Japan also discussed the challenges regarding the coffee industry in the future such as climate change which was the main topic of discussion at the workshop.
“We also discussed climate change which became the main consent in the workshop,” said Sepdian.
Sepdian hopes that international workshop activities like this will continue to be carried out, because it can open cooperation between Polije, universities and industries in Japan.
“Hopefully in the future Polije can collaborate with universities in Japan for student and lecturer exchanges,” concluded Sepdian. (hnf/ang/vig)
