The Shobara International Exchange Association (SIEA) organized a Kimono Event aimed at fostering cultural exchange and strengthening ties between the local and international communities in Shobara.
The event, held at Rakushowza cultural center, provided participants with the unique opportunity to experience Japanese culture firsthand by wearing traditional kimonos. Experts were on hand to assist participants with the intricate process of wearing the kimono, a process that took approximately 30 minutes. For many, this was their first time wearing a kimono, making it a particularly memorable experience.
Among the participants were Farihatul Jannah, Lucky Fajar Irawan, Baqir Mohammad, Ruth Monica, and Umi Kulsum, students from Polije (Politeknik Negeri Jember) who are currently participating in the Fall Semester PUH 2024 international student program. Their participation highlighted the international appeal of the event and its success in attracting individuals from diverse backgrounds.
After donning their kimonos, participants strolled through Shobara, taking photos at iconic locations known for their historical and aesthetic significance. These picturesque spots provided the perfect backdrop for capturing the beauty of the traditional Japanese attire.
The participants’ presence in kimono attracted the attention of local Japanese citizens, who approached them to chat and share stories about the tradition and meaning behind the kimono. These interactions created a warm and welcoming atmosphere, further promoting the event’s goal of building stronger relationships between the local and international communities.
The event concluded with participants returning to Rakushowza to return their kimonos. The Kimono Event proved to be a resounding success, offering participants not only the chance to wear a kimono but also a deeper understanding of Japanese culture and the opportunity to forge meaningful connections with the local community.
