Jember Polytechnic Launches AI Assistant for Elderly Diabetes Care

Jember State Polytechnic has introduced a digital health initiative for elderly diabetes patients. The program uses a Virtual Assistant Nutrition Education Support Application (VANESA). This innovation addresses growing diabetes challenges in aging populations worldwide.

The project operates from the Teaching Factory Nutrition Care Center. It combines vocational education with community health needs. VANESA specifically tackles limited healthcare access and low digital literacy among elderly participants.

Team leader Rossalina Adi Wijayanti emphasized the program’s accessibility. “Technology should bridge gaps, not create them,” she stated. The initiative ensures health education reaches all demographics, including seniors.

The program supports UN Sustainable Development Goals for health and reduced inequalities. It offers a scalable model for developing nations facing similar healthcare challenges with aging populations.

This project strengthens Polije’s role as a vocational institution driving social impact. It demonstrates how teaching factories can become innovation hubs that create tangible community benefits through digital solutions.
