Polije Strengthens High-Tech Agrotechnotropical Research Under Prof. Budi Hariono

Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) continues to strengthen its role as a center of excellence in agricultural technology innovation through the leadership of Prof. Dr. Ir. Budi Hariono, M.Si. As one of the institution’s leading professors, Prof. Budi is driving the advancement of agrotechnotropika research—an area focused on the application of modern technology in tropical agricultural environments.

Prof. Budi Hariono emphasized that agrotechnotropika serves as a bridge between vocational education and industrial implementation. This research field integrates agricultural mechanization, automation, and high-value processing technology to enhance productivity and sustainability in tropical agriculture. His vision aligns with Polije’s mission to develop innovation-based vocational education that responds to current and future global challenges.

One of Prof. Budi’s remarkable initiatives is the development of advanced machinery and tools to support local agricultural industries. Among these is a batch-system distillation machine designed for extracting essential oils from local commodities such as lemongrass and roses. The equipment not only improves production efficiency but also supports the empowerment of local farmers and small industries through technology transfer and applied research.

Under his leadership, Polije’s Department of Agricultural Technology has also encouraged research that connects academic learning with real industrial needs. Students and lecturers collaborate in innovation projects that result in new food products, functional processing tools, and process optimization systems—all of which are ready to be applied or commercialized.

Prof. Budi’s focus extends to the modernization of laboratory infrastructure, particularly in the Laboratory of Agricultural Tools and Machinery. Through this facility, students are trained to design, test, and refine machines that meet the requirements of industrial-scale agriculture while considering efficiency, safety, and sustainability.

This research initiative also contributes to the national goal of agricultural industrialization by creating solutions tailored for tropical climates. By combining technology, research, and entrepreneurship, Prof. Budi aims to make Polije a reference point for practical innovation in agricultural technology both nationally and regionally.

According to Prof. Budi, vocational higher education must not only produce operators but innovators—graduates capable of designing, improving, and managing technologies that can drive the agricultural sector forward. This mindset encourages creativity, independence, and the entrepreneurial spirit among students.

With the growing impact of agrotechnotropika research and the integration of high technology in education, Polije is taking another step toward realizing its vision of becoming a leading vocational higher education institution in Asia. Under Prof. Budi Hariono’s direction, Polije continues to transform agricultural research into real solutions that empower communities, strengthen industry, and support sustainable development.
