International Students from Five Countries Enjoy Cultural Excursion to Papuma Beach, Jember

Politeknik Negeri Jember (POLIJE) organized a cultural and recreational visit to Papuma Beach, one of Jember’s most iconic natural attractions, as part of the International Mobility and Community Service Program. The activity brought together international students from five countries—China, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Sudan, and Tanzania—who are currently studying or participating in exchange programs at POLIJE.

The excursion aimed to provide an opportunity for international students to experience the beauty of Jember’s natural landscape while strengthening intercultural friendship and appreciation of Indonesian culture. The visit also served as a break from their academic schedule, allowing participants to bond in a relaxed and informal setting by the sea.

Led by POLIJE’s International Affairs Office (KUI) team, the trip included students from UiTM MARA Melaka, Malaysia, who were in Jember for a short-term mobility program, along with Darmasiswa and degree students from other partner countries. The group departed from the POLIJE campus in the morning and arrived at Papuma Beach, where they were greeted by stunning ocean views and white sandy shores.

Throughout the day, students engaged in a variety of group activities such as beach games, cultural sharing sessions, and photo sessions. They also enjoyed local culinary specialties and learned about the significance of Papuma Beach as a natural tourism site that reflects the cultural identity and environmental richness of Jember Regency.

Ms. Nur Aqilah Norwahi from UiTM MARA Melaka expressed her admiration for the beauty of the place, noting that the visit offered a refreshing experience and strengthened cross-cultural relationships among students from different backgrounds. “This visit helps us connect beyond the classroom and appreciate the diversity that makes international learning so meaningful,” she said.

For many students, especially those from Africa and South Asia, it was their first time visiting a coastal site in Indonesia. They expressed appreciation for POLIJE’s efforts in organizing inclusive activities that help international students explore local culture, geography, and environmental awareness while fostering global friendship.

According to POLIJE’s International Affairs Office, the visit to Papuma Beach was part of the institution’s broader strategy to integrate cultural immersion into its international programs. Such activities support POLIJE’s vision of becoming a globally recognized institution that combines academic excellence with cultural diplomacy.

The trip concluded with a group photo session at the beach, capturing the joy and togetherness of students from diverse nations. The participants left Papuma with unforgettable memories and a deeper appreciation for Indonesia’s natural beauty and cultural warmth — a true reflection of global unity through education and friendship.
