UiTM Melaka Lecturers Deliver Inspiring Guest Lecture “Speak to Connect” at POLIJE

Politeknik Negeri Jember (POLIJE) welcomed two distinguished lecturers from the Academy of Language Studies (APB), Universiti Teknologi MARA Melaka Branch (UiTMCM), Malaysia, for a special guest lecture titled “Speak to Connect.” The event was part of the ongoing International Mobility and Community Service Program, which aims to enhance cross-cultural learning and academic collaboration between POLIJE and UiTM Melaka.

The guest lecture featured Ms. Nur Aqilah Norwahi and Ms. Nurshaza Farah Md Sharif, both experienced educators from UiTM’s Academy of Language Studies. Their session focused on the importance of communication as a tool for building connections, confidence, and cross-cultural understanding in academic and professional contexts.

Held at the POLIJE Main Hall, the event was attended by students from the English study program, lecturers from the Department of Language, Communication, and Tourism, as well as representatives from the International Affairs Office (KUI). The participants showed great enthusiasm as they engaged actively in discussions and activities designed to improve their speaking and intercultural communication skills.

In her presentation, Ms. Nur Aqilah Norwahi emphasized that effective communication goes beyond language proficiency. She encouraged students to cultivate empathy, active listening, and open-mindedness when interacting with people from diverse backgrounds. Her talk included practical exercises that demonstrated how communication could bridge cultural gaps and strengthen collaboration.

Meanwhile, Ms. Nurshaza Farah Md Sharif shared insights on how public speaking and storytelling can empower individuals to express ideas confidently. She highlighted the role of language educators in fostering global-minded graduates who can represent their institutions and countries with professionalism and pride. Her engaging delivery inspired many participants to step out of their comfort zones and speak with greater assurance.

The “Speak to Connect” session was not only a lecture but also an interactive learning experience. Students participated in short group activities, role plays, and reflection sessions that encouraged them to apply communication strategies in real-life scenarios. The speakers’ approachable style and insightful guidance created an inspiring and enjoyable learning atmosphere.

According to representatives from POLIJE’s International Affairs Office, this guest lecture strengthened the relationship between POLIJE and UiTM Melaka. It provided an opportunity for both institutions to exchange ideas on language teaching, cultural exchange, and student development — paving the way for future collaborations in academic and community-based projects.

The guest lecture concluded with a token of appreciation presented to the two speakers, followed by a group photo session. Participants expressed their gratitude and admiration for the inspiring session. The event successfully reflected the spirit of international cooperation, mutual learning, and the shared mission to empower students through communication and cultural connection.
