In a significant move to promote cultural tourism, Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy conducted a working visit to the traditional Panglipuran Village in Bangli Regency, Bali. The visit aimed to directly observe the cultural and tourism potential that has made this destination one of Bali’s premier attractions, showcasing Indonesia’s commitment to sustainable tourism development on the global stage.
Accompanied by officials from the Bali Provincial Tourism Office, the Minister was warmly received and guided through the village.
During the tour, the unique traditional architecture, well-preserved spatial layout, and local wisdom that have earned Panglipuran its reputation as an icon of sustainable tourism were thoroughly explained, demonstrating how cultural preservation can become a powerful tourism asset.
Adding an educational perspective to the visit was Vemas Aditya, a student from Jember State Polytechnic (Polije) who is currently interning with the Bali Provincial Tourism Office. His participation highlighted the important role of young professionals and academic institutions in tourism development.
“This opportunity has helped me understand how cultural preservation supports tourism,” Vemas stated. “Panglipuran demonstrates how culture can become a world-class attraction.”
Reflecting on the broader implications, Vemas emphasized the value of collaborative approaches.
“We’re learning firsthand how government, communities, and academics can collaborate to develop tourism without compromising local values,” he added, underscoring the importance of multi-stakeholder partnerships in creating sustainable tourism models.
The ministerial visit is expected to further strengthen Panglipuran Village’s position as a world-class destination while opening opportunities for broader collaboration between government, academic institutions, and local communities. This initiative represents Indonesia’s proactive approach to developing tourism that balances economic benefits with cultural preservation and environmental sustainability, offering valuable insights for the global tourism industry.
