Polije Empowers Local Farmers with Sustainable Feed Technology Training

Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije), in collaboration with the Jember District Office of Community and Village Empowerment (PMD), organized a training program on appropriate technology for livestock farmers in Suci Village, Panti Subdistrict. The initiative aimed to strengthen farmers’ skills in managing animal feed and waste into value-added products.

The training focused on silage technology, a feed fermentation method that extends the shelf life of forage while improving livestock digestibility. Resource persons included Dr. Ir. Yuana Susmiati, S.TP., M.Si., Qanitah, S.ST., M.T., and Rizki Amalia Nurfitriani, S.Pt., M.Si. In addition to silage production, farmers also learned how to process sheep manure into solid organic fertilizer to support integrated farming systems.

Dr. Yuana Susmiati emphasized that the program was designed to deliver direct benefits to the community.

“This training will positively impact farmers in Suci Village by enhancing their skills in producing silage feed and organic fertilizer,” she said.

Similarly, Rizki Amalia Nurfitriani highlighted the potential for long-term change at the village level.

“Through this training, we expect farmers to produce feed independently, reduce feed costs by utilizing agricultural waste for silage, and convert livestock manure into valuable organic fertilizer,” she explained.

The event was also attended by the Head of PMD Jember, representatives from the Livestock Service Office, and the Panti Subdistrict Head, reflecting strong institutional support for rural innovation.

By introducing sustainable and practical technology, Polije reaffirms its commitment to empowering local communities. This initiative not only boosts livestock productivity and farm efficiency but also aligns with global efforts toward environmentally friendly agriculture and rural sustainability.
