Polije and KWT Delima Merah Strengthen Local Mango Industry in Bondowoso Through Circular Economy

Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije), in collaboration with the Women Farmers Group (Kelompok Wanita Tani/KWT) Delima Merah, has successfully implemented the Strengthening of the Local Mango Industry in Bondowoso Based on Circular Economy program in Jambesari Darus Sholah District. The initiative addresses challenges of productivity and the sharp decline in mango prices during peak harvest seasons.

The Polije community service team introduced training sessions on Good Agricultural Practice (GAP), flowering induction technology, and product diversification, including mango-based innovations such as jam, sponge cakes, and modern beverages. Early results indicated that the skills of KWT members improved by more than 80 percent in cultivation, post-harvest handling, and product processing.

Dian Galuh Pratita, S.P., M.Sc., Head of the Community Service Team, emphasized that the circular economy concept is the key to building a sustainable mango industry.

“Through this innovation, livestock waste is processed into organic fertilizer to support GAP-standard mango cultivation. This way, farmers are not only more productive but also achieve better welfare,” she explained.

She also expressed optimism that the program could elevate Bondowoso’s reputation as a leading mango hub in East Java.

“Our hope is that Bondowoso will stand out as a center for a sustainable mango industry, built on environmentally friendly technology and high value-added products,” she added.

Through this initiative, Polije reaffirms its commitment to supporting food security, improving farmers’ welfare, and contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through agricultural innovation.
