Polije and UNEJ Launch “Grow Scan” AI Application to Detect Stunting in Early Childhood

A community service team from Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) and Universitas Jember (UNEJ) has officially launched the “Grow Scan” application at PAUD Cerdas Inklusif Banyuwangi. The AI-powered Smart Computer Vision app is designed to support early detection of stunting and monitor child development, including children with special needs.

Team leader Sabran, S.KM., M.P.H., highlighted that this innovation responds to the urgent need for early childhood growth monitoring.

“Grow Scan provides accurate assistance for parents and teachers to monitor children’s conditions. It not only detects stunting risks but also offers guidance for developmental support to ensure optimal growth,” Sabran explained.

He also emphasized the crucial role of parental involvement in child health monitoring.

“We want to raise awareness that early monitoring is the key. With this application, parents can actively track their child’s growth anytime through their smartphones,” he added.

The program began in early August 2025, starting with a location survey on August 2, a parent socialization session on August 14, and concluded with PAUD teacher training on August 15. The initiative was supported by the Directorate of Research and Community Service (DPPM), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology.

The Grow Scan app is equipped with an automatic height measurement feature that provides growth status—whether normal or at risk of stunting. Its Growth Monitoring feature also enables teachers and parents to easily access a child’s developmental data via mobile devices.

With its smart technology approach, the innovation is expected to be adopted by more PAUD institutions across Banyuwangi and beyond, helping reduce stunting rates and improving the overall quality of early childhood development in Indonesia.
