POLIJE STUDENTS PRESENT “DIABETACARE”: A DIGITAL SOLUTION FOR DIABETES DIAGNOSIS AND EDUCATION

Students from the State Polytechnic of Jember (Polije) have once again demonstrated their real contribution to health technology through an innovation called DiabetaCare. Developed by Team Sehat from the Department of Information Technology, DiabetaCare is a web and mobile-based system designed to assist healthcare professionals in diagnosing diabetes risks and to educate patients directly through digital platforms.

“With DiabetaCare, we aim to create a solution that not only helps doctors diagnose more quickly and accurately but also encourages patients to take an active role in managing their own health,” said Helga Faisa Fahar Nabilah, one of the development team members.

The application employs machine learning models to process clinical data such as glucose levels, blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), and other supporting information to estimate diabetes risk. On the patient side, the app offers a range of features including health education content, informative articles, examination history graphs, and daily health goals to encourage healthy habits like regular exercise and medication routines.

DiabetaCare is built with a fully integrated system: a website used by medical professionals, and a mobile application tailored for patient use. The backend is developed using Laravel and connected to a MongoDB database, enabling efficient automatic diagnosis and health record tracking. Meanwhile, the mobile app developed with Flutter provides features such as self-assessment based on selected symptoms, along with user-friendly access to their health data.

“Our hope is that DiabetaCare can serve as a bridge between technology and healthcare. We want this app to promote independent healthy living and deliver real impact for both patients and healthcare providers,” Helga added.

With this innovation, Team Sehat has not only created a smart and practical digital system but also contributed to raising public awareness about the importance of early detection and independent management of chronic diseases. DiabetaCare stands as a testament to how vocational students can play a strategic role in addressing public health challenges through data-driven and socially conscious technology solutions. (rda)
