Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) successfully held the national seminar Semanis Tani 2025 on Wednesday, June 5, 2025, emphasizing the strategic role of students in advancing Indonesia’s food sovereignty. Organized by the Department of Agricultural Production, the event also included a technical agricultural training session aimed at strengthening students’ practical knowledge in modern farming.
Held at the Polije Auditorium, the seminar brought together students, lecturers, agricultural practitioners, and policymakers to discuss the critical condition of national food systems. Through a series of expert talks and panel discussions, participants were introduced to current challenges facing food security, including supply chain disruptions, climate change, and limited access to farming technologies.
The event featured leading speakers from the agricultural sector who presented key data on national food production and distribution. They also emphasized the importance of student involvement in building resilient food systems, particularly through innovation, community-based farming, and the application of agrotechnology.
In addition to the seminar, participants received Bimbingan Teknis Pertanian (technical agricultural guidance), which included demonstrations of modern cultivation methods, post-harvest technology, and efficient land management practices. These sessions aimed to bridge the gap between academic learning and field application, encouraging students to become active contributors to agricultural development.
“The future of Indonesian agriculture lies in the hands of today’s students. Through seminars like Semanis Tani, we hope to shape young minds into future leaders in sustainable food systems,” said one of the event’s keynote speakers.
Semanis Tani 2025 was also designed as a networking platform, allowing participants to connect with fellow students, researchers, government officials, and private sector stakeholders. Collaboration across institutions and disciplines was highlighted as key to achieving long-term food sovereignty goals.
Polije reaffirmed its commitment to empowering youth through education, training, and innovation. According to the organizing committee, Semanis Tani reflects Polije’s vision to prepare students not only as agricultural professionals but as agents of change in national development.
The event concluded with a call to action for students to take an active role in their communities, applying the knowledge gained to real-world agricultural challenges. Participants are expected to lead local initiatives, conduct field-based research, and contribute to policy discussions that promote sustainable farming.
As Indonesia continues to prioritize food sovereignty in its national agenda, events like Semanis Tani 2025 play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of agricultural leaders. With knowledge, passion, and collaboration, students are set to become the cornerstone of the nation’s food security. (rda)
