Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability by organizing a training session titled “Institutionalization of Waste Facility”, held on the 5th floor of the TP Building. The event was a collaborative effort between Polije, S4C, and Waste4Change, and served as a platform to strengthen institutional awareness and practices in waste management.
The training was officially opened by the Vice Director of Finance and General Affairs at Polije, Dr. Yossi Wibisono, S.TP., M.P. In his opening speech, Dr. Yossi emphasized the importance of this initiative, especially for Polije, which has been recognized in the UI Green Matrix rankings. “This activity is a very important agenda, particularly for Polije, which has received awards from UI Green Matrix. As one of the green campuses, Polije fully supports initiatives like this because they align with the institution’s commitment to environmental preservation,” he stated. He also expressed his hopes that the training would set a positive example for the entire academic community and generate a broader impact on society.
The event featured a presentation by Dwi Retnastuti, S.T., a speaker from Waste4Change, who brought valuable insights on the institutional aspects of waste management based on her vast experience in community empowerment and environmental stewardship. The agenda covered a variety of topics, including an overview of waste management in Indonesia and the strategic planning needed to institutionalize waste management facilities.
Participants of the training included representatives from university leadership, the finance and general affairs department, the academic, student affairs, planning and cooperation divisions, as well as the general affairs sub-division and sanitation coordinators, SDGs team, and academic departments including Teaching Factory representatives. Importantly, the event was also attended by key student figures such as the President of the Student Executive Board (BEM), the Chairperson of the Himapala Bekisar Student Activity Unit (UKM), and the Chairperson of the Scout UKM.
This meaningful event also marked the announcement that Polije now has a newly established Waste Management Facility, demonstrating the institution’s seriousness in supporting green campus programs. The new facility is expected to serve as both an educational center and an operational unit for integrated waste management on campus.
Through this training, Polije continues to not only commit to environmental management but also actively shape a culture of environmental awareness within the higher education community. (rda)
