UPA BAHASA POLIJE HOLDS COACHING CLINIC ROAD TO IISMA 2025, PREPARING STUDENTS TO PENETRATE THE GLOBAL WORLD

The Language Academic Support Unit (UPA) or Language Center of Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) successfully held an event entitled Coaching Clinic Road to IISMA 2025. This program is comprehensively designed to prepare Polije students to participate in one of the most prestigious international scholarship programs, the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA). This activity was held as a form of Polije’s support in improving the language competence and international insight of its students so that they are able to compete in the global arena.

The Head of UPA Bahasa Polije, Renata Kenanga Rinda, S.Pd., M.Pd., explained that the IISMA program has an important goal in equipping the young generation of Indonesia to be ready to become part of the world community.

“IISMA aims to prepare the golden generation of Indonesia who understand cultural differences and how we respond to them. With this understanding, it is hoped that POLIJE students will be able to compete in the international arena and have a positive impact on themselves, the campus, and the nation,” said Renata.

According to her, IISMA is a golden opportunity for students to gain experience studying at foreign universities and interacting with students from various countries, thereby broadening their horizons and adding added value to global competence.

The Coaching Clinic Road to IISMA 2025 was carried out in several stages designed in parallel so that each participant could follow the learning process gradually and effectively. The first stage was the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) training session, which is one of the important requirements in the IISMA selection process. This training took place in four online sessions from November 1 to 4, 2024 and was attended by around 175 Polije students. In addition to taking part in intensive training, participants were also given the opportunity to work on try outs and get in-depth discussion of questions by TOEIC instructors.

In the second stage, students took part in essay writing training and interview practice which were held directly at the Polije Vocational Auditorium. These two skills are considered very crucial in the IISMA selection process, so UPA Bahasa ensures that students get adequate guidance and practice. Not only the students who attended this session, but also the Deputy Director of Academic Affairs of Polije, Surateno, S.Kom., M.Kom., who also gave an opening speech and motivation to all participants. In his speech, Surateno expressed his hope that Polije students can make the most of this program to gain international experience, which will be valuable provisions in their future careers.

“This is a very valuable opportunity for all of you, make the most of it to develop your potential and seize valuable opportunities at IISMA,” said Surateno.

In addition, there were also 10 student supervisors or coaches who accompanied the participants in the training process. These coaches act as mentors who help students understand the material and provide personal support. After going through the training and guidance session from the coaches, on the last day of the activity, students took the TOEIC test in the UPA Bahasa Test Room. This test was held to measure their English language skills after going through a series of intensive training, as well as an evaluation of students’ readiness to take part in the actual IISMA selection.

It is hoped that with the Coaching Clinic Road to IISMA 2025, Polije students will not only have good English skills, but also have communication skills and broad cultural understanding. This is in line with Polije’s target to support Key Performance Indicator (IKU) 2, which is to provide off-campus learning experiences to students. With this thorough preparation, Polije students are expected to be more ready to seize opportunities at IISMA and other international programs.

“We are optimistic that with the provision carried out through this activity, Polije students will be able to achieve achievements in the international arena and become a positive representation for Indonesia,” concluded Renata. (rda)
