Normandie, France – Students of the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) program from Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) have just participated in a field visit in a series of Environmental Challenges in Agriculture courses. The activity, which was held at Parc Canadien, Normandie, provided a unique experience for students in understanding environmental challenges, especially those related to wildlife such as bison and deer.
The visit took students on a trip around the park in a pick-up vehicle, where they were able to see first-hand the Canadian bison that were relocated to France. “Fun fact, these bison came from Canada and were moved to France because they were hunted a lot in Canada,” said Andiana, Student of POLIJE. In addition to bison, students can also observe deer that live in the park.
Throughout the visit, students received explanations from local farmers using French. To facilitate communication, students were divided into mixed groups with local French students who helped translate the information provided. This enriched their cross-cultural learning experience as well as their ability to communicate in different situations.
As a follow-up to this activity, students are scheduled to participate in a bison-related debate as part of a course assignment. The visit not only broadened students’ horizons about wildlife, but also provided an opportunity to hone academic skills through in-depth discussions.
This activity is expected to continue to increase the understanding of Polije students in the environmental field and strengthen international cooperation in the field of education. (rda)
